Gregory Sanjase humbled by the Chipolopolo call-up


CITY of Lusaka goalkeeper Gregory Sanjase is humbled that he has been summoned to the national team that is preparing to face Namibia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on March 23.
The match will be played at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Gregory is among three goalkeepers that Chipolopolo assistant trainer Aggrey Chiyange has summoned for the dead rubber match for the national team.
Others are Lawrence Mulenga of Power Dynamos and Justin Munyikwa from Green Eagles.
Zambia, who are out of the race are anchoring Group K with four points.
Guinea Bissau and Namibia are at the top with eight points while Mozambique are a point behind in third position.
Sanjase said is happy that his hard work is being recognised.
“I would like to thank God for this life-time opportunity. My dream has always been to play for the Zambia national team,” Sanjase, 22, told the City of Lusaka media team.
He is desire is to cement his position and be part of the Chipolopolo set-up.
“I joined City of Lusaka in 2018. It means a lot to me and my career to be summoned to the national team. It shows that when you work hard things happen like that,” Sanjase, who kept 14 consecutive clean sheets last season for City of Lusaka in 2018, said.
He said he will continue working hard.
“I would like to thank my coaches at City of Lusaka Football Club, my teammates, everyone at Woodlands Stadium including members of the board and executive committee members for their support. I would also like to thank my family members, my parents, my sisters, relatives and friends, my church mates and everyone associated to me for their encouragement and support,” Sanjase said.    
Who is Gregory?
Gregory Sanjase is third in the family of four siblings.
He was born to Mr and Mrs Fredrick Sanjase and Estella Lubambo 22- years ago. 
“We are four in our family and I am the only boy in the family,” he said.
Who is his inspiration? 
Sanjase draws his inspiration from Germany World Cup winning goalkeeper Manuel Peter Neuer.
Neuer, who is on the books of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. 
Neuer was part of the Germany national team that won the World Cup in 2014 in Brazil and was voted the best goalkeeper in the world the following year.
Which team does Gregory support?
Despite being the fan of Neuer, Gregory supports Manchester United of England.
Manchester United have won more trophies than any other clubs in English football, with a record 20 League titles, 12 FA Cups, 5 League Cups and a record 21 FA Community Shields.
United have also won three UEFA Champions Leagues, one UEFA Europa League Cup, one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Intercontinental Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.
Which club does Gregory wants to play for in the Zambian Super Division?
Having been schooled on the Copperbelt and in Mpongwe District, a town that is not very far from Ndola, you expect Gregory to admire the professional set- up at Zesco United, he wants to play for Zesco one day. He wants to win titles with Zesco United, one of the most successful and well managed teams in Southern Africa.
Zesco have seven league titles and several other Cups. 
Where did Gregory do his second school?
“I was at Mpongwe Boarding Secondary School in Mpongwe on the Copperbelt Province,” he said.
He holds a grade certificate from the same (Mpongwe) school. 
Gregory is a Christian and goes to the Catholic Church.
